Privacy Policy
Effective: 2026-05-09
MeerKatta is built and operated by Lugugul llc ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and how we handle the data the app touches.
TL;DR
- We don't run servers that hold your voice, transcripts, or polished writing. Those live on your device (and your iCloud, if you're signed in).
- Cloud AI processing depends on your plan: Lifetime uses your supported API key; Subscription uses MeerKatta's configured providers. Raw transcription can run on-device/offline.
- We don't sell, share, or use your content for training.
- We do collect: your license key, payment info via Paddle, and (if you opt in) anonymous crash reports.
If anything here is unclear, email hello@meerkatta.com and we'll plain-English it.
1. What MeerKatta does with your audio
When you dictate, MeerKatta:
- Records audio on your device.
- Creates a raw transcript using the transcription option you selected, which may be on-device/offline or a supported cloud transcription provider.
- If AI polish is enabled, sends the raw transcript to the supported AI provider configured for your plan or API key.
- Inserts the polished text where you asked (a focused field, your Library, your Notes, your clipboard).
Processing depends on the plan and settings you choose. If you connect your own API key, your audio and text go to the AI provider you chose under your account. If you use a managed MeerKatta plan, AI requests are processed through MeerKatta's configured providers. On-device/offline transcription does not require a network connection.
The polished text lives on your device in MeerKatta's local Library. If you opt in, it can be pushed to Apple Notes via a Shortcut you install — that's an Apple system, not ours.
2. What we collect
The minimum needed to run a paid product responsibly.
| Data | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Your email + payment info | Sell you a license, deliver receipts | Paddle (our payment processor and Merchant of Record) |
| Your license key + activation events | Verify your license is valid on your devices | Keygen (license server) |
| Anonymous crash reports | Find and fix bugs | Sentry — opt-in, default ON, toggle off in Permissions settings |
That's it.
3. What we don't collect
- We don't have analytics.
- We don't track your usage of the app.
- We don't have advertising IDs, marketing pixels, or third-party trackers.
- We don't read your dictated content. We never store it on any server we control.
- We don't sell or share your data.
- We don't use your content to train any model.
4. Crash reporting (Sentry)
If the crash-reporting toggle is on (default), the app sends anonymous crash data to Sentry. This includes:
- The function call stack at the time of the crash
- The macOS / iOS version, app version, device model
- A short trail of recent app actions ("recording started", "polish completed")
It explicitly excludes:
- Audio
- Transcript text
- Polished output
- API keys
- Vocabulary, tone preferences, or anything else you typed
You can disable crash reports at any time in Permissions (Mac) or More → Permissions → Privacy (iOS). When disabled, the SDK is torn down and no further events leave the device.
5. Personalization data
Your custom vocabulary, tone preferences, and other Voice settings are stored locally on your device and synced via iCloud Key-Value Store (Apple's iCloud, signed into your Apple ID). We don't operate this storage; Apple does. Apple's privacy policy applies. We can't see this data and we don't try to.
6. Payments
Paddle handles payments as the Merchant of Record. They see your payment method, billing address (for tax purposes), and transaction history. Their privacy policy: paddle.com/legal/privacy.
We see only what Paddle forwards to us in webhook events: customer email, subscription status, and whether your license should be active. We do not store full card numbers, CVV, or any direct payment credentials.
7. Third parties
The companies whose services touch any data related to MeerKatta:
| Service | Role | Their privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Paddle | Payments + tax | paddle.com/legal/privacy |
| Keygen | License issuance | keygen.sh/privacy |
| Sentry | Crash reporting | sentry.io/privacy |
| Apple | iOS / macOS / iCloud / TestFlight / App Store | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Supported AI providers | AI transcription + polishing when cloud AI is enabled through your API key or a managed plan | Provider policies apply to your direct usage; managed-plan processing is governed by MeerKatta's provider configuration |
8. Children
MeerKatta is not directed at children under 13 (US) or 16 (EU). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Your rights
You can:
- Access the data we hold about you (email hello@meerkatta.com).
- Delete your account and license records (email hello@meerkatta.com — we'll process the deletion request through Paddle and Keygen within 30 days).
- Export what we have (a copy of your license + payment metadata, on request).
EU/UK/California residents have additional rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA respectively. Same email; we'll honor them in the legally required timeframe.
10. Data retention
We keep license records for the duration of your license + 7 years (US tax-record requirement on Paddle's side). Crash reports rotate out of Sentry after 90 days on the free tier we use.
If you delete your account, payment + license data is removed within 30 days, except where law requires us to keep records longer (Paddle handles the financial record retention).
11. International transfers
Our license server (Keygen), payment processor (Paddle), and crash reporter (Sentry) operate from servers in the US and EU. By using MeerKatta you consent to data transfer to and processing in those jurisdictions, with the safeguards each vendor maintains under their own GDPR / CCPA compliance.
12. Updates to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll:
- Update the "Effective" date at the top of this page.
- Notify you via email (the address tied to your license) and an in-app notice on next launch.
You'll have the chance to read the changes before they apply to you.
