Refund Policy

MeerKatta is sold in two flavors, and the refund policy differs because the cost structure differs. Read whichever applies to your purchase.

TL;DR

  • Lifetime plan (you bring your own supported API key): 14 days, no questions asked. Email us within 14 calendar days, get your money back, no need to explain.
  • Subscription plan (we supply the AI service for you): 14 days, refund of the unused portion. AI usage incurs real costs on our end, so we pro-rate the refund based on what you've consumed.
  • Defects, accidents, duplicate charges: always made right, regardless of plan or window.
  • Abuse cases (described in §4 below) won't be refunded on either plan.

1. Lifetime plan — 14 days, no questions asked

Under the Lifetime plan, your dictation runs on your own supported API key — your audio and transcripts go directly to those providers under your account. MeerKatta itself doesn't pay for any of that usage.

Because there's no per-user variable cost on our end, we keep the refund simple:

If you decide MeerKatta isn't for you within 14 calendar days of your original purchase date, email hello@meerkatta.com with your Paddle order ID and we'll refund the full amount. We don't need a reason. Approved refunds typically appear in your account 3–10 business days later, depending on your bank.

After the refund is issued, your license is deactivated and you should uninstall the app.

2. Subscription plan — 14 days, pro-rated by usage

Under the Subscription plan, MeerKatta supplies the AI transcription and polishing service on our infrastructure — we pay the underlying provider on your behalf, you pay us a flat fee.

Because we're absorbing usage costs, refunds within the 14-day window are pro-rated to keep the policy fair to honest customers without becoming a free-trial-via-refund:

  • If you've consumed less than 20% of an average month's usage (≈ a few hours of dictation), full refund, no questions.
  • If you've consumed more, we'll refund the unused portion of your billing period (annual plans) or pro-rate based on consumption (monthly plans).
  • For subscriptions, you can cancel anytime in Paddle's customer portal — you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for, no further charges.

We'll always be transparent about the calculation when we respond to your request.

3. After 14 days

Outside the 14-day window, refunds are at our discretion. We typically grant them — partial or full, depending on the case — when:

  • A bug we can't reasonably fix breaks a feature you bought MeerKatta for
  • Our service has been unavailable for an extended period through no fault of yours
  • You discover a misrepresentation in our marketing or documentation

These are reviewed case-by-case. Same email; we'll respond.

4. When we'll decline a refund

To keep the policy fair to honest customers, we won't refund in cases of obvious abuse:

  • Refund-and-rebuy patterns: repeated cycles of purchase, refund, repurchase under a different email
  • Bulk activation followed by refund: buying multiple licenses, activating them on multiple devices, then requesting refund
  • Apparent automation: purchase patterns or activation behaviors inconsistent with personal or single-organization use
  • Charge-then-keep-using: repeated chargebacks while the license remains active on your devices

If we decline a refund, we'll tell you why and you can appeal. We don't aim to be adversarial — these cases are rare.

5. What we always refund

Some situations always get a refund regardless of plan or window:

  • Duplicate charges: if Paddle billed you twice for the same purchase
  • Wrong product: if you purchased the Subscription plan when you wanted Lifetime, Lifetime when you wanted Subscription, or similar
  • Consumer-protection law: EU/UK statutory cooling-off rights and equivalent laws in other jurisdictions take precedence over our policy when they're more generous

6. How refunds are processed

Paddle, our payment processor, handles the refund mechanics:

  • Credit / debit cards: refund typically appears in 3-10 business days, depending on your bank
  • PayPal: typically same-day to 2 business days
  • Other methods: as Paddle's processing time permits

You'll receive a refund confirmation email from Paddle when the refund is issued.
